Arte en el Parque

One of the artifacts inside of the museum
Ciudad Juarez had an event called Arte en el Parque (Art in the Park) today at El Chamizal Park. I had been to El Chamizal Park a couple of types previously. Ulises and I decided to go, but when we arrived, we didn't really see anything interesting going on inside. Luckily, the festival was right by the Archeological Museum. We went inside. It is a really small building, but they have some interesting information and some interesting artifacts. Best of all, it was free! This may make me sound cheap, but I really do love free things. But then again, who doesn't?

Another artifact.  The artifacts are from
different regions around Mexico, not
just from the state of Chihuahua.

After the museum, we walked around El Chamizal for a
little while.  Here I am amongst the green.  Though we angled
this photo so that you couldn't see the bald spots
in the grass.  But at least the trees are green!

Chaos

This evening was pure chaos at my house.  It started with my radio going off.  I had to listen to see if they were calling me.  That was around 7pm.  Shortly after that one of my sister's called me.  So there I was, trying to listen to my radio, talking on the phone, when suddenly I hear this ruckus from downstairs.  I call out to Ulises to see what was going on and I hear him say, "There's a cat!"  I have to admit, that I couldn't fully digest what was going on.  Ulises brings Gizmo to me to hold on to and then starts searching the house.
I tried listening to the radio, talking to my sister, holding on to Gizmo, and trying to figure out what is going on for a few minutes before I finally had to tell my sister that I would call her back.  Even with one less thing going on, it was still chaos.  I tried to help Ulises look for the cat while still listening to my radio and holding on to Gizmo.  I found the cat hidden under one of the beds where I keep Gizmo's things.  I locked Gizmo into my bedroom to let Ulises chase the cat outside.  Luckily, during that time I was able to stop listening to my radio.  I left Gizmo in the room and heard a huge ruckus going on downstairs.  The cat was literally jumping up the walls.  I saw him (or her) jump higher than the front door.  Finally, it ran outside and climbed one of the trees in the backyard.  Ulises finally got it to jump the fence and it ran off.  I felt bad for it, but it was kind of crazy.
Afterwards, I discovered it had caused a few problems.  It broke my Mexican toy (I don't know what it's called), knocked things over, and who knows what other damage.  It was a crazy night.
So, how did that cat get into my house?  Well, someone from the Consulate was over at my house yesterday to fix some things.  If my front door doesn't get dead-bolted, the wind will blow it open, even if it is locked.  When I got home from work, the door was open.  I didn't notice anything different, so I shut and dead-bolted the front door.  That was just after 5pm.  I let Gizmo out in the backyard, as I do sometimes.  He loves to go out there and watch birds.  Then I went around my business.  Ulises arrived around 6pm and he didn't notice anything either.  At around 7pm, he was headed out, and so went downstairs.  That is when he saw the cat.  He let Gizmo in and Gizmo freaked out.  He went after the cat, but the cat was faster and got away.  Gizmo doesn't like seeing other animals in his territory.  Well, you know the rest of the story.

Birthday Party

We went to Ulises' mother's house to celebrate her birthday this morning.  It was mainly just a family gathering with food, presents, and cake.  It was fun, and though it was hot, we worked out a system using the trunk of my car to give us shade.

The rest of the gag gift, a jar of baby food.

Indios Basketball Game

I got free tickets to go see the championship basketball game between the Indios of Juarez and the Indios of Chihuahua.  I think every basketball team around here is called Indios, because the first game I went to was also Indios vs. Indios.  We got there about half-way through because of other conflicts.  That means we also didn't have great seats, or even seats at all.  It was still fun.  Unfortunately, the Juarez team did not win. :(

Dust Storm

I had to go to El Paso this morning, and on my way back a huge dust storm came in.  It didn't last very long, but it was pretty ugly while it was here.

Good Friday

Happy Good Friday!  I've never celebrated Good Friday before, which makes sense since I'm not Catholic, and also because I've never had it off.  It was really nice to have yesterday and today off.  Today, Ulises and I went to his mother's house to spend the day with his family.  It was fun.  We got back to my house around 7:30, and the missionaries were just about to leave a note on my house.  We let them inside.

Gizmo

I just felt like posting some funny or cute photos of Gizmo that I've taken recently.
Gizmo wanted to go through the dryer . . .
Or maybe he just wanted to lay on the blanket . . .
Sleeping on my bean bag chair, he looks so tiny!
Ulises was feeling ill today, and Gizmo
slept with him to make him feel better.
