Wedding at the Arizona Biltmore

Burrowing owl keeping guard on a post near his home
I am in Phoenix right now.  One of my friends got married this evening at the Arizona Biltmore.  I'm staying with my aunt and uncle at their home in Laveen.  I arrived last night with a pretty easy plane ride from El Paso.  It took about an hour.
Last night we went out to a sushi restaurant for my first real indoctrination into sushi.  I've had sushi before, but never at a sushi restaurant (I tried it once at a buffet in NY when I was 14 yrs old, and since then have made sushi with other people).  It was good.
This morning, we got up pretty early and went for a walk.  There is a family of burrowing owls living under the sidewalk near by.  We saw 3 out, but 2 went in as we got closer.  Finally the third, who must have been the lookout, flew across the street.  It was still pretty cool.

After breakfast & getting ready, we went shopping before getting lunch at a salad buffet.  It was really good.  I generally don't like buffets because I always feel like I overeat, but at this salad buffet, I didn't feel that way.  It was good food, too.
After lunch, we went swimming.  They have a nice pool setup in their backyard.  It felt nice, the water wasn't too cold, and yet it was refreshing in the Arizona heat.
After that, my uncle showed me how he makes his prize-winning chili before I got ready for the wedding.
The wedding was at the Arizona Biltmore, which is a pretty ritzy place.  The ceremony was pretty short, which was nice, maybe 30 minutes tops.  Everything looked beautiful, including my friend.  Dinner was served after at around 7:30.  I ended up sitting next to someone who thinks she has the same thing as me.  I found out from her that I will have to be eating wheat for 6 months before getting tested.  That kind of sucks.  I'm going to ask my doctor when I finally get one.
Fancy Salad . . .
Since my friend who was getting married is from my A-100 class, several other of my A-100 classmates were there, including two who came from Monterrey, Mexico.  It was nice to see them all and catch up on things, even though its only been a month since I saw a couple of them.  One of my friends from Monterrey found a nice surfing vacation.  I think we may do that, though I'm not sure when.  It sounds pretty fun and interesting.  And learning to surf is on my list of things to do.
I started feeling tired around 9:00, and made motions to leave, but ended up being there until almost 11pm.  Its hard to say goodbye to a lot of people.  The wedding favor was pretty cool.  It is a bowl with the chinese symbol for double happiness on it.  If you look closely at the symbol, it looks like two people holding hands.
Tomorrow I head back to El Paso & Mexico.  It has been a short, but fun weekend.
The Biltmore is so fancy, in the bathrooms they have
real towels.
The wedding favor - look closely to see the two people
holding hands!
