Today was my second day interviewing for non-immigrant visas. It was very exhausting. It's amazing how it can feel like you talked to so many more people than you actually did. For example, I did around 30 interviews today and it felt like I did double that. That may have been because I branched out of the normal NIV cases. The normal cases are the tourist visas. The majority of our cases are for tourist visas, generally for a border crossing card, since we are on the border. But we also get students and temporary workers. I did a few of each of those two today.
I never thought it would be difficult to refuse a visa to someone, especially when that person has broken the law, but it is. I mean, I didn't have to go through this process because I was lucky to be born in the U.S.
Anyway, no one ever said this job would be easy, and honestly I hope it never gets easier. I don't want to become hardened to the plight of others, even though people lie. Still doesn't mean I have to become like Dr. House, right?
