Second Christmas

Gizmo loves his new toy!  There is a mouse that peeps
out of a hole in a log, the tail swishes around at the base
and if you push the mouse, it makes squeaks!
I'm back in Juarez! It has been a long day, but I have so much energy! That may be because instead of sleeping on my flight from Phoenix, I talked the entire way. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
This morning was filled with after-Christmas shopping. We were looking for sales on Christmas items. I wasn't planning on buying anything, but I ended up buying lots of Christmas cards. I guess I won't have an excuse not to send Christmas cards next year.

After shopping, Patti and I went back the the house. We watched one of my Christmas presents, and generally relaxed until Frank got home. Then we ate dinner before they took me to the airport. I didn't know how much time I would need. It turned out I didn't need as much as I had. But oh well, I guess that's better than arriving and realizing that if I don't cut in front of everyone and don't literally run to the plane, I will miss my flight.
On the flight back, I was sitting next to a guy who just returned from being deployed in Kosovo a couple weeks ago. We had an interesting conversation about life overseas. Maybe that is really what gave me energy. I love talking about living abroad and my experiences in different countries.
When I arrived home, Ulises was waiting for, as was Gizmo. I guess they both missed me tremendously. I gave Gizmo his Christmas present. He loved it, just as I knew he would, though it took him a little while to realize what was going on.

Then Ulises wanted me to open his present to me. I did so. He even got me a little something for my stocking. Then I had him open my present to him. He was surprised to discover that it had been sitting under my Christmas tree that whole time. After that, since I still had energy, I opened the other Christmas presents I had left under my tree.
All in all, this year was a really good Christmas. The only thing that could have made it better would have been having all my family and friends at my house for Christmas. Then again, maybe that would only be nice in my dreams. Who KNOWS what would happen if all of my family and all my friends gathered in one place!
